The Experience

By - Alexander T. Thompson

But hardly a thing you miss,
while gliding silently through
this thick thriving bliss ..
in your little red solo canoe.

Feel its surface with an opened hand ..
this humble yet moody lake.
And between your fingers let run sand..
just only for the sake.

Absorb it through your senses
as fully as you can ..
the beautiful natural dances
of this haunting untamed land.

Know that it may disappoint you ..
for it cares not what you wish.
The skies won't forever shine blue.
Nor will your fork always meet with fish.

It's an unpredictable stranger ..
lacking of love, concern and sorrow ..
who won't sigh when you're in danger
or weep upon your luck tomorrow.

Expressing honesty without fear ..
this wild is more true than it knows.
And, during your paddle alone here,
you'll see for yourself .. how it goes.

But the soft red reflection below,
that quietly follows you closely ..
is as dead as the places you go,
where your perception matters mostly.
