Farm Lake
Access to Farm Lake was originally through Crotch Lake from Shall Lake . . where an earlier access point office had been located. A new access administration office is now located immediately east of the bridge spanning the river between Crotch and Farm Lakes. It is still referred to as the "Shall Lake Access Point".
This lake was named after one Alex McDougall's farm . . which had 15 acres cleared by 1847. It was located two kilometers west of the lake's west end. The J. R. Booth Lumber Co. later enlarged it . . developing it as an important depot. No remains of the settlement are visible from the water.
![]() Farm Lake eventually narrows to river-width. Just before the portage to Kitty Lake . . nestled deep within the shady pines to the right . . is the refurbished Kitty Lake ranger cabin. It was built in 1935 . . materials being salvaged from the abandoned Booth Depot Farm and the Booth "End of Steel" lumber camp. Dressed lumber was brought in for the roof and floor. Remains of the logging depot farm . . lumber camp . . logging railway . . fire tower . . hose drying tower . . towerman's cabin . . a fire equipment storage house on the river and improvements for the spring river log drive are all evident within one mile of this site.
