On May 4th, Iain Leitch headed out on a six day loop via Rainbow, McIntosh, Misty, White Trout, and Sunbeam Lakes .. "Six Days Alone in Algonquin: Canoe Lake to White Trout and Back". His trip-log is on his website .. Iain Leitch Photography.

"Once I rounded a point and was hit with a strong headwind, I knew I had entered Grassy Bay for real. This is where I spotted the obligatory moose of the trip, casually munching along the shoreline. Eventually, I rounded the last corner and entered White Trout Lake, where I took the wind head-on again. My goal for the night was the U-shaped island in the middle of the lake. It took a while, but I made it."

On April 27th, Jim R. and his brother hiked to Zigzag Lake ... "Bushwhack to Zigzag Lake". Their trip-log is on their website .. Algonquin Day Hikers.

"There was a heavy flow of water over the beaver dam and a strong current. Last year, when we hiked to Grass-pink at the end of March we stripped down and waded across the river. This year, getting a little smarter with age, we brought hip waders for the crossing. As a child, more than 60 years ago, I can recall when there was a bridge crossing the river here."

Cody Stein, of "Algonquin and Beyond" has published an account of his five day hiking and photography drive-in camping trip. It is loaded with wolf, moose, fox and northern lights photos .. . Incredible Wildlife & Northern Lights in Algonquin Park.

"Within minutes, the northern lights were visible in every direction. North, south, east, west, and directly overhead.I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. It wasn't the typical 'the camera can see it but the human eye can't'. No, it was very visible across the entire sky. Reds, purples, greens. In every direction. I didn't even know where to point my camera. Every time I would start taking photos for a timelapse, something epic would happen in a different direction."

Evan Briden, of the "SingleMaltAndMaps" YouTube channel, has posted on the forum, the trip-log of his late September 2023 three day there-and-back to Gilmour Lake with his daughter and nephew .. Algonquin Park: Tecumseh Lake to Gilmour Lake.

"We loaded up our lunches, topped up the water bottles, hung our bear hang, and loaded into the canoe. I had never travelled on Gilmour Creek before, so we were not sure of the level of difficulty for the route. The plan was to travel to Cedar Lake, check out the Kish-Kaduk lodge remains, eat lunch, and then return the same route. I figured it would take most of the day, would give us something to do, and hopefully tire the kids out."

"Uppa", of "KayakCamper.com", has shared the trip-log of his early spring of last year 4-day solo loop out of the North River access point, east by the North River, circling back through Allan, Menona, Big George and Wabamimi Lakes, to North River Lake. His trip-log is in the form of a forum posting ... Bushwhacking in Algonquin - with a Sea Kayak.

"As I reached the edge of Wabamimi I started to get nervous: the forest between me and the lake was extremely dense: the only way I'd be getting a boat through there would be with a chainsaw and a few days of felling trees. So I kept walking the road, hoping for a change of fortune. As I reached the point where the logging road would start getting further and further away from the lake with every step I took, the forest finally started to look manageable: barely."

"McCarthy Creek started off fairly easy at first but quickly got more challenging when the log jam came up. I was able to find a spot where I didn't need to lift too much but ended up with a wet foot and nearly fell in trying to haul my fully loaded boat over the logs. Once clear of the log jam, I had to deal with 4-5 beaver dams which, while relatively small, were annoying to try to get over."

Forum user "Dwight" has started off our "in-house" PCI submissions for this year with a couple of new campsite reports.

And on Feb. 19th, he submitted two more! Lake Lavieille CS 9 and Little Crooked Lake CS 2.

This website's Portage and Campsite Inventory started in 2012 .. to help inform people following in others' steps.

Over the years, as campsite reports flowed in, eventually submissions of portage reports actually "dried-up"!

On January 24th, Jim R. and his brother tried again to reach Aurora Lake ... "Aurora Lake - Third Time's the Charm". Their trop-log is on their website .. Algonquin Day Hikers.

"With the very cold temperatures experienced through most of January the entire area is completely frozen over with no sign of open water. Even so, we took extra care in crossing places where we suspected we were close to the main channel. We were able to follow our old ski trail over to Foys Lake. We paused at the creek to admire the industriousness of beavers. They have built a dam over a long distance along what was the logging road. At a height of about 4 feet it holds back a large body of water along Basin Creek."

On January 10th, Jim R. and his brother drove north up the Basin Depot Road to the Foys Lake Trail, on which they cross-country skied to Foys Lake, in an effort to reach Aurora Lake .. "Elusive Aurora Lk". As before, their website's (Algonquin Day Hikers) trip report is well-illustrated by photos.

"In October we attempted to hike to Aurora Lake but discovered the old logging road to Aurora was completely flooded over where it crossed Basin Creek. Over the years the flooding has created a large, deep pond and wide marshlands that made it impossible to go further on foot. We decided then we would wait until winter and try to ski across the flooded area once it was frozen over. On January 10, after several very cold nights, we made the attempt ... "

"... This marked our second attempt at making it to Aurora Lake. While we made it to less than a km from the lake it remains elusive."
