Basin Lake Campsite #1 N45 44 29.9 W77 47 36.6
Landing Topography of under-water approach: Western-facing island landing is a nice, 40 meter long sandy to pebbly beach with scattered emergent weeds. Beach tapers off quickly to deeper (20’+) water 30 feet offshore. No underwater obstructions. Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: None. Topography to tent sites: Short incline path up to campsite area from the landing. Roughly 2.5 meter elevation above landing.
Campsite Regular or low-maintenance: Regular. Size of open area: 110’ x 80’. Extent of tree cover: 85% canopied over firepit, kitchen and tenting location. Degree of levelness: Very flat throughout the campsite. Number of level tent sites: 3 flat sites adequate for a <=6 person tent. North exposure: Protected from the north winds – site nestled nicely within island’s red-pine forest. East exposure: Protected from the east winds – site nestled nicely within island’s red-pine forest. South exposure: Protected from the south winds – site nestled nicely within island’s red-pine forest. West exposure: Campsite and landings would be exposed to strong westerlies, although proximity to the lake’s western shore should temper that. General description: Great campsite overall. Good day-long sun exposure on exposed landing area, nice sandy gravelly beach for lounging and swimming. Beach is long, can wade at least half way around the island. Existing trail also reaches three quarters of the way around island, up a short distance from water’s edge. Water drops off into 7 meter+ depths off west, south and east-facing shorelines. Site would be adequately protected from all but very strong west winds. Thunder box located east of campsite. No issues with firewood. Lots of blueberry bushes. Great sunset views and good sunrise views by walking north along the beach. Overall accessibility: Great
