Portage 265 meters - On the Amable du Fond River
Length of portage: 265 meters. Portage maintenance regular or low: Regular. Landing on Kioshkokwi Lake, at east (downstream) end Topography of under-water approach: A large slab of rock, with a couple of medium/large boulders to contend with. Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: None. There is a landing approximately 20m to the east that is used as a boat landing. Not recommended to be used as a take-out. There is a narrow, and restrictive path that leads to the portage trail, that makes it difficult to carry a canoe. Topography of the ascending grade: A narrow, somewhat steep path with rocky, rooty sections. Impediments to moving gear to portage trail: The smallish landing area is the staging area. Large items (canoes) should be moved first when numerous portagers are present. Landing and path to start portage ...Space for some staging of gear ... Room for some more gear to be staged prior to portage ... Portage Trail Elevation Profile (not to scale) ...Landing at: Amable du Fond River (upstream end) Topography of under-water approach: Sand with a fast drop-off. Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: The shoreline is somewhat sloped, a little care may be needed. Topography of the ascending grade: The staging area is the apex of the trail. A steady descent to Kioshkokwi Lake. Impediments to moving gear to portage trail: After unloading, there is a quick 2m lift to the staging area. A somewhat steep embankment ...Looking down from staging area ... Staging area at top of embankment ... Thanks to Jeffrey McMurtrie of Maps By Jeff for supplying the base map.
