"AllTrails.com .. Best trails in Algonquin Provincial Park" is just a small part of an intriguing online resource for day-hikers!

AllTrails operates on a "freemium" (free and premium access) business model and is accessible through both a web browser on a computer and and a mobile app on a mobile device.

While it will inform you about many trails in Algonquin Park, it will also help you hiking both in your local "back home" vicinity and "far away" should you travel elsewhere.

A new "Downloadable Historical Park Maps" page has been added to this website's Resource section providing downloads of some vintage Algonquin Park maps. The maps were originally posted on Mark Rubino's website markinthepark.com with the provision that they are freely available to everyone and that others are free to mirror them, to help reduce the load on the server hosting markinthepark.com.

These particular image files have had their colour-casts returned closer to their original unfaded levels and have been reduced in pixel dimensions and file-size to facilitate quicker download.

The new page also includes a link to a repository of historic Algonquin Park maps maintained by Diana and Bob McElroy on their website at "McElroy.ca".

"Welcome to The Thunderbox, my (hopefully) monthly roundup of anything Algonquin related that’s caught my eye. This newsletter includes a spotlight lake, recent trip and campsite reports, reviews of any new gear I’ve been trying out (or maybe just old gear that I’m a huge fan of) and links to any relevant Algonquin content I’ve come across recently."

Wanda Spruyt has submitted a trip-log of her two-part mother-daughter & solo canoe trip taken this past August .. "Back-to-back Burnt Island / Opeongo Trip".

"Throughout our trip we saw and spoke with many people, often late in the day. Some were exhausted trying to find a good site, with no open sites within view or anywhere close for that matter. We did our best to direct some travelers to anything we knew was still open, as we paddled around quite a bit every day. For us this was a first. We have not yet had an issue finding a good site, although we usually travel later in the season. When half of Burnt Island Lake up to Caroline Island is full, its actually quite a long paddle from the portage to find an open site, especially when the majority have already travelled over four hours from Canoe Lake, wanting to camp ASAP.."
