An 'eight-pack' of new 1024 x 768 pixel wallpaper photograph files have been added. They're from a short trip I took to Linda Lake from July 14th to 18th. They reflect the variety of weather encountered .. as well as that of the landscape. Just click-on over to the 'Photos / Wallpaper' subsection.

Last Friday (July 18th), this was the scene at the south end of Bruce Lake. While paddling between the Raven and Source Lake portages, I discerned moose in the distance. Paddling down the length of the lake, I was rewarded with this bit of 'moose drama' ... now responsible for twin babes, the mother moose was literally breaking the bonds with her juvenile child from last year, repeatedly chasing it away.

Back on the 13th, Bill Lennips was confronted by unlawful and destructive behavior by the operator of a powerboat on the Nipissing River. In support of the welfare of Algonquin Park, he took the appropriate action of reporting the transgressor to the park staff.

Check out the details of the incident as he has also submitted them to the 'Preserve and Protect Algonquin' component of this website. Remember that park staff cannot be everywhere. It's our responsibility to report destructive and dangerous activities!

Norm Hooper .. contributing writer to the 'Canoe Stories' website. Sunday, July 20th, 2003 . . . . .

Norm Hooper has emailed in the URL address to a new Algonquin trip-log that resides on Jim Hegyi's impressive www.CanoeStories.com website.

His latest trip-log describes his group's 8 day loop out of the Kioshkokwi Lake access point (also known as Kiosk, #29) ... by way of Whitebirch, Mouse, Big Thunder, Erables, Maple, Ratrap, Boggy, Three Miles, Manitou and Kioshkokwi Lakes.

Ted Strolenberg has emailed in his photo-illustrated trip-log account of a 7 day solo canoe trip he took late in May of this year .. a loop through Dickson, Whitepartridge and Lavieille Lakes.

Here's an excerpt ...

"I continued up the Crow the next day. This stretch consists of short portages followed by short paddles (9 in total) with the longest paddle being Mallic Lake. In several spots you can see the next portage about 100 to 200 meters upriver from your put in. I found that several of the paddling sections have very fast current (swifts) and you really have to work to make any progress going upstream (especially solo). I tried fishing at the foot of several rapids along the way but got nothing."

Doug Vance (of Frik Outdoors ) has emailed us this light-hearted reminder of two important things.

First ... the park's "Friends of Algonquin" volunteer organization continues to need our financial support.

Second ... the many "smaller critters" of Algonquin are quite capable of providing both amusement and aggravation for us as we hike, canoe and camp in their wilderness backyard.

You're invited to share your "Algonquin critter" experiences either by posting them on the Message Board ... or by submitting them by E-mail ... with photos, if you have them.
