Tim Lake Campsite #2 (2008)

Landing

Topography of under-water approach: South facing landing, over shallow sandy narrow (8’ wide) beach. High water the landing would be nestled up against a steep sod/rooty bank. No obstructions to landing when visited.

Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: None – shallow sandy beach landing supports easy loading/unloading. Protected from all but strong south winds. Landing nestled on the inside of a point at mouth of small eastern bay.

Topography to tent sites: Slow 20 degree taper uphill to campsite, good firm footing with emergent roots. Campsite is roughly 8’ in elevation from waterfront.

Campsite maintenance: regular.

Size of open area" approx. 60’ x 60’ campsite.

Extent of tree cover: 60% canopied over tent/kitchen area

Degree of levelness: Flat around firepit and tenting area.

Number of level tent sites: At least 3 flat sites adequate for3-4 man sized tents.

North exposure: Protected from the North – campsite backs on to evergreen forest.

East exposure: None - Protected from eastern winds due to proximity to eastern shore + thin evergreen cover east of campsite.

South exposure: Landing is exposed to the south, main firepit/tenting areas fairly protected from south winds. Tenting site north of campsite offers better protection from south, west and east winds.

West exposure: Thin treeline west of campsite offers only limited west wind protection to firepit and main tent site.

General description: Decent campsite, firepit somewhat exposed to west and south winds. Secondary campsite north of main firepit offers good protection and more privacy/shade. A number of grills were present. Thunderbox located north of campsite. Great summer sunset views, decent sunrises from campsite and/or landing. No issues with firewood. Decent swimming off campsite’s landing and west-facing shoreline below site – mostly sand. Good moose viewing in small bay east of campsite.

Overall accessibility: Good.
