St. Andrews Lake Campsite #7

Landing

Topography of under-water approach: East-facing landing. Smooth-lazily sloped granite rock landing rises to kitchen and tenting areaa. No obstructions to landing during normal water levels, however low water levels may expose a few large emergent and submergent granite rocks near shore.

Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: Due to the angle of the rock landing, it may be slick for some shoes/sandals. Topography to tent sites: Slow taper uphill along sloping rock to campsite and firepit area. Roughly 10' in elevation from waterfront.

Campsite

Regular or low-maintenance: Regular Maintenance

Size of open area: 100' x 100'.

Extent of tree cover: 60% canopied over tent/kitchen area.

Degree of levelness: Slight angle throughout campsite.

Number of level tent sites: Nothing perfectly level, the best tent location had a very slight angle, the other 2 were more awkward. Each tent site was adequate for a 2 or 3 man tent.

North exposure: Protected from the north winds as campsite located in the narrow north end of St. Andrews Lake.

East exposure: Protected from eastern winds due to the proximity of eastern shoreline and its cliffs.

South exposure: Southern exposure from canoe landing only, can look south down to the end of the lake.

West exposure: None - campsite protected via mixed hardwood/conifer forest from the west.

General description: Great campsite in terms of lounging and kitchen facilities due to the span of 7 chairs around the firepit, small rock table also fashioned along eastern-face of the firepit. Chairs - armrests not used for sitting made excellent tables. A number of grills were present. Firepit well protected from any wind direction due to the high rock walls. Poor sunset views, although lots of sun exposure along water-front rock face between 10 - 5 pm. Thunder box located west and uphill of campsite in oak and spruce clearing. Lots of great hardwood available for fires.

Overall accessibility: Good
