Sec Lake Campsite #14

Landing

Topography of under-water approach: East landing: (right of flag) weedy + downed timber, bottom sandy/muddy.

Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: Eastern landing has some downed timber, sloping hill upwards to campsite.

West landing (preferable) is sandy, 2' deep @ shoreline (high water) and protected from east winds (to the left of Sens flag).

Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: Western landing has shrubbery impediment but good footing on sandy beach, small landing area.

Incline to campsite 30 degree angle, up 10 feet from landing.

Topography to tent sites: Hard packed earth with some roots.

Tent area flat, kitchen/cooking areas on a slight grade but not an issue. Kitchen and tenting area about 10' higher from water up a little rise from canoe landings. Good sandy-earth trail from landings leading to campsite.

Campsite

Campsite: regular maintenance

Size of open area: 100' x 60' .

Campsite and partial view of the firepit and kitchen area, looking south ...

Extent of tree cover: 60% canopied

Degree of levelness: Angled grade to kitchen area, tenting site flat.

Number of level tent sites: Easily three 3 person tents

North exposure: Tenting, kitchen and eastern landing area is exposed to the north winds, finger point provides little protection.

East exposure: Kitchen area would be rough in the event of strong easterly winds due to the lack of windbreaks.

South exposure: Limited southern exposure at tenting and kitchen area, campsite backs onto evergreen forest.

West exposure: Good western exposure, lots of afternoon sun. Would be rough in the event of strong westerly winds, both the kitchen, tenting and western landings would be exposed.

General description: This popular island campsite was very roomy and included a full sized picnic table and a partial (3' x 3') kitchen countertop nailed into a large log round. Lots of room for two families and kids (9) however little protection from north, west and east winds and little privacy. Sufficient firewood and large clearing behind squatbox makes for entertaining island exploring with the kids. Path to campsite due south of this one is doable, 100m. Rough trunks surround firepit sufficient to sit 6 adults. Good swimming at westerly landing - all sand footing with some reeds to the south. Hung rope from branch was a favorite with the kids. Nice views west and east on the lake from this site.

Overall accessibility: Good.
