Head Lake Campsite #4

Landing

Topography of under-water approach: Blown over trees and shallow sandy/muddy waters can make the approach a bit tricky. Landing is on south side of peninsula.

Impediments to disembarking from and/or unloading a canoe: Once you make it to the landing, disembarking is easy. Large, flat beach area.

Topography leading to tent sites: Campsite sits on top of a hill, approx. 12 feet high. It's a bit of a climb up from the landing.

View of the landing, looking down from the campsite.

Campsite

Campsite maintenance: Regular.

Size of open ground area: The neck of the peninsula is open ground and comprises the campsite, approximately 15x25 ft.

Extent of tree cover: Tree coverage is behind the peninsula, but not much on the actual peninsula itself

Degree of levelness: Flat.

Number of level tent-sites: At least 1 large (8 person) tent-site in the open area.

North exposure: Beyond a few trees, the campsite is open to the north. However, the whole peninsula is within a bay so it’s relatively protected from an otherwise windy Head Lake.

East exposure: Forest behind campsite protects from eastern winds.

South exposure: Exposed, but close enough to southern shoreline that campsite is protected from southern winds.

West exposure: Very open, and like it’s north exposure, the whole peninsula is within a bay so it’s relatively protected.

Fire-pit area, with open bay visible to the northwest.

Large tent area.

Southwest from the campsite, towards the waterfall.

General description: A nice campsite hidden away in the south side of Head Lake. If only the campsite to the north wasn’t there, you would have full privacy. But you have view of the waterfall from this campsite, and the campsite is raised on a peninsula, so it’s nice and picturesque. Big fire pit area with tons of seating, and a large tent spot. Not ideal for swimming, bit of a tricky approach to the landing, but otherwise it’s a nice campsite.

Overall accessibility: Easily accessible.
